Germany

I thought I was going to Germany, primary to see historical sites.  The Berlin Wall, the Holocaust museum, Checkpoint Charlie, etc.  WOW, Berlin, showed me so much more.

I was very afraid to travel here since I don't speak any German and though people have told me everyone speaks English, I knew pretty instantly in the airport (I flew from Amsterdam) that this would still be difficult.

I caught a cab, which meant, I had to actually show the guy a picture and address of my hotel from my phone because apparently, I didn't say it correctly. But he was super nice and tried to point out neighborhoods and things along the way.  He even told me I chose a good location and the train was right next door.

I checked in where everyone spoke English and wanted to see the sites.  So I had to figure out the subway/trains.  Thank you google maps, another accomplishment that I don't have to conquer much in the US.  I bought a 48 hour pass and went to the Berlin Wall museum.

I won't get overly political in this post so let me just say that the monument (the entire couple of days) was very thought provoking.  The stories you see and feel really make you think - as it should.

That night was the Game of Thrones Finale, so I wound up getting very little sleep and then walking ALL OVER Berlin the next day.  Even explored some outside neighborhoods.

The best part of the trip was meeting an old friend/colleague that I haven't seen in probably 7 years who has recently moved to Berlin.  She took me to a beautiful bier garten that was amazing and then for some traditional German food.

Berlin surprised me.  The transportation system is fantastic and easy to figure out.  The beer is simply heaven! And the sites are more than just history and beautiful architecture.    It's something that everyone should experience to remember the past, but to see what can become of the past.

I will write more about these pics when I have more time.
